The busiest men this morning were the physios. Fergal and Seamus had loads to do tending to aching and tired limbs. Andrew,Seamus,Eoin and David had a real treat as they went to the river for some unique treatment! We think that Seamus must take pleasure in seeing others suffer! To be fair it works and the lads really found the benefit in it.
Otherwise it was plenty of rest and relaxation. We also heard that our games on athlonetowntv.com are getting almost 1,000 hits a day.
Very soon it was nearly time for the game. At the team meeting we were left in no doubt as to how important the game was. It was a quarter final but also a local derby against the auld enemy. We were up for this one.
The weather was awful. Yesterday we almost ran out of sunbloc. Today it rained and rained
And then it rained. It made for a greasy pitch but we were ready. We did a good warm-up and all seemed well but we were awful in the first half. We just could not get going in a poor match but it all changed in the second half. Conor scored a goal just after the restart.
It was like hitting a switch. Suddenly we were all over Longford. We had some great chances but still needed Mark to make a good save.
But we got a second insurance goal from the Wonder Kid. It was a great move and a great goal. We hit a post after that but the game finished 2-0 and we were happy.
Now we will play Sligo/Leitrim in the semi-final tomorrow morning. (Thurs).
After the game it was back to the houses to dry out and then off for some food..
Today is also Andrew’s birthday. We all signed a card and a football. Brillant.
Then we had one of the highlights of the week. The ADSL Kennedy Cup X Box FIFA 2008 Championships. Each house had their own competition to contest the semi-finals. Michael beat Ciaran O’R in the first semi-final while Andrew beat Paddy in the second semi-final. It was brilliant crack. Warren was on commentary and was running the betting. Even some of the Galway lads came in. Our champion will play theirs in the Grand Final tomorrow night.
Andrew is our Champion. He hammered Michael. Another win for House 16.
We then had a birthday cake and candles for Andy. It was a great night.
It was another great day. We won and managed to score two goals without causing further injury to Terry. A semi final tomorrow so off to bed for 10.30 except for those on the night shift with Fergal and Seamus.
Good night John Boy!
